It is on the European side of Dardanelles which is a strait linking Marmara sea to Agean sea. In 1915 Allies tried to pass through Dardanels. After then they were planning to invade İstanbul and open a supply route to Russia. First Allied navy bombarded Turkish artilery. Turkish artilery were highly damaged. But some of the ships were sunk by the mines which were put into Dardanelles by an Ottoman ship which is called Nusret. After then Allied forces needed the support of ground forces. Australian and New Zealanders were recruited in Egypt and taken to Gallipoli. Anzac corps (Australian and New Zealander army corps) landed and land battle started. Many battles took place and many people died from both side but both sides couldn&rsquo;t achive a notable victory. Finally British goverment decided to evacuate soldiers from Gallipoli. By 20December 1915 every soldier were evacuated from the peninsula. </span></span></p>
