Republic of Turkey

Today Turks are celebrating the 92nd anniversary of their democratic republic. On 29 October 1923 Mustafa Kemal Ataturk declared Turkey as democratic republic after 3 years of de facto parliament’s establishment and he was elected as the first president.

The declaration of republic became the start of drastic changes in Turkey in the political, economic and cultural aspects of the society. The political, cultural, economical, legal, social reforms by the hand of government converted the country into a secular, modern nation-state.

The republic day is celebrated throughout the country by joining marches, concerts and dances. If you are lucky enough to be in Turkey that period of the year, we especially recommend you to see Bosphorus Bridge with its decorations and lights.

For some years firework shows or Mehteran band concerts are also organized in the Old City. Many people go to visit the Ataturk mausoleum in the country’s capital, Ankara to show their gratitude to founder of this modern country.

Happy anniversary Turkey!

You sure look great for a 92 year old!
